Mama Greece (Hellas) and Mama Egypt (Kemet) in the style of Alphonse Mucha!

Uhhh so yeah on Friday I was just hummin along, doot de doo, when suddenly I guess a Muse decided to land on top of me and I couldn't do anything else besides MAKE THIS PICTURE so I did and it took from Friday evening all the way until Sunday hahaha orz I'm too impulsive for my own good

But it's cool to see that I can actually pull it off *u*

There are all kinds of little details and historical references all over the piece, I was careful to research! I got out a book each on Egyptian painting, Greek painting, and Mucha's complete works, and studied them as I was working. So the facial structures are at once reminiscent of the artistic conventions of those cultures, and still go with the realism Mucha had.

And the white pyramid isn't really too anachronistic, actually, they used to be highly polished.

Little Greece and a concept of little Egypt were stuck in down there as an afterthought, I think they balance it all out rather nicely ;3;

Also I am never drawing hair like Mama Egypt's ever again hjdksfds that was so difficult D8

A friend said they wanted to use it for a wallpaper, and it's at a weird size, so I took the liberty of making a 1600x1200 version ;3; [link]

done entirely in Photoshop
Characters and APH is copyright Himaruya Hidekaz, though the designs are my own.

EDIT: gonna list historical references here~
the border around Mama Egypt's circle might just look like asterisks because haha that's how I made them, typing in *****, but that's actually roughly how the Egyptians depicted stars. Mama G's was just, uh... switching the typeface to "symbol" and typing around until I found a pretty letter, in this case yyyyy.

on the lower left we have a doric column and something vaguely resembling a greek statue in the contrapposto~ pose. On the right we have a pyramid (with its cap still intact!) and a generic statue of Osiris.

Mama G is framed by a laurel, and the "fibula" pin on her chiton is a laurel wrought in silver. Mama E is framed by a lotus flower.

Little Egypt is wearing his hair in a braid on the side, which was common for young boys in ancient Egypt.

The bg of Mama G's circle is a shade of orange to signify the red clay her most famous pottery used. Mama E's is tannish for the sandstone she usually painted on.

ok that's it I just wanted to point those things out thank yooou ;3;
